Event Time:

Event details

Get ready for an exciting, interactive election experience designed especially for Key Stage 2 pupils.

In this engaging live lesson, pupils will take part in a real-time digital vote to decide their class mascot. Using j2Vote, children will cast their vote, watch the live results appear on screen, and see how the majority decides the outcome. Along the way, they will explore key vocabulary such as majority and deepen their understanding of how voting works in real-life elections.

Once the winning mascot is announced, the lesson moves into persuasive writing. Pupils will learn what a manifesto is and why it matters. They’ll explore how candidates explain their ideas, share promises, and encourage others to choose them.

Using JIT Paint, pupils will then design their own mascot manifesto. They will create a bold poster featuring the winning mascot, add speech bubbles or text boxes, and write three clear promises beginning with sentence starters such as:

  • I will help our class…
  • I promise to…
  • I will always…

The session finishes with reflection and discussion, helping pupils connect their experience of voting with how decisions are made in wider society.

This lively, curriculum-linked session combines computing, democracy and persuasive writing in a memorable and practical way – giving pupils the opportunity to experience voting and manifesto writing first-hand.
